WHY YOU NEED A SIEVE

When you are always reading information from different sources, watching, or listening to information from different sources, like the internet; print media, like Newspapers, Magazines, or broadcast media like Television, Radio, etc, this means you are most likely always on the “receiving” end of information.
It’s therefore important to develop a habit of sieving out whatever you choose to listen to, whatever you choose to read, and whatever you allow into your life.
We always need to be cautious with whatever kind of information we allow into our lives.
When you are always “receiving”, and “receiving” different information, it definitely will have some kind of effect in your life, either positive or negative.
It’s important to practice “mindfulness” in your life, on a daily.
Mindfulness according to mindful.com is defined as the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
When you are the kind of person who practices mindfulness, you will find yourself being the type that doesn't just listen to anything, or watch anything. You will instead be careful with what you choose to listen to, ... what you choose to watch... and how you react to different situations that happen all around you.
If you haven’t developed a habit of “sieving” whatever you receive into your life, and you haven’t created ‘boundaries’, then you are bound to be filled with all kinds of information, that you probably don’t even need to know about, or that is pretty much unnecessary.
Creating your own sieve requires discipline, and requires you to live your life in “an intentional way”.
It all begins with ‘choice’.
Being intentional means doing something on purpose, and being deliberate.
Ever heard of the saying, “Too much of anything is bad”; in this situation, when you don’t develop a habit of creating your own human sieve, (especially since the world will not create that sieve for you) you will find that you will be exposed to “too much” information, and most of the time, information that might at times be “unnecessary”.
It will negatively affect your mind, and your thinking patterns, which will eventually affect your life, work, and generally, your relationships.
The World is a big place and has all kinds of information from different kinds of places.
Social Media has made it so much easier for us to get exposed to so much information, which can be both a good thing, and bad thing, at the same time.
That’s why it’s important that you create your own kind of “sieve”, to help filter and keep what’s important, and discard that which is not important.
As I conclude my post today, I would like to remind you that “not everything is good for your consumption.”
There is so much information out there, I mean; the world is such a big place.
So, be careful what you ‘choose’ to watch, read, or listen to.
Remember, before social media, and smart phones, life was still beautiful.
“The fear of missing out” shouldn’t drive you to consume just about anything, because you don’t want to be left behind.
You don’t have to take in, or consume everything that the world has to offer.
Develop the habit of having your own sieve, and sieve whatever information you receive through newspapers, radio, reading a book, reading a magazine, or while surfing the internet.
Ask yourself, “Is this information going to make me better in any way? is it developmental? is it something that God would want me to read? watch? or would recommend for my consumption?
Think about it first, and see whether it will be of any value to you.
I hope this blog post has been valuable to you.
